Oxford School of English
The school offers English classes for children, teenagers and adults. Teachers teach an average of 25 hours of classes a week. These hours typically cover the core teaching hours (Monday to Thursday 4pm – 8pm) with the remaining hours being made up during mornings (maybe 2 or 3 mornings a week), Friday afternoons and alternate Saturday mornings. These may include general English classes, conversation or business classes. Core classes are taught in the academy, whilst other classes may be in the academy or on premises of business clients, teaching either groups or individuals. All teachers generally teach a range of age groups and levels of English. The academy offers both young learners and adult students the opportunity to study for University of Cambridge ESOL exams. Therefore a number of adult classes involve preparing students for these exams. Class sizes are generally small (under 10 students) and teachers enjoy good friendly relationships with students and other members of the teaching team. The city of Oviedo, itself, is capital of the Principality of Asturias in the north of Spain. It’s a small, friendly, university city (extremely safe and clean) and a very pleasant place to live. The three Oxford Schools are within 20 minutes walking distance of one another. The main school being located in the centre, the other two in neighbourhoods a short walk from the city centre. The city has a lively nightlife. There are many cafes and restaurants and a range of festivals and cultural events are held throughout the year. Asturias is also a popular location for people who enjoy outdoor activities. Both beach and mountains are within a 30 minute drive of the capital. Rented accommodation is fairly easy to find in the city. A 25 hour teaching salary is sufficient to rent a small flat. However, being a university city, there are also many opportunities for flat sharing available.
